Integral Eye Movement Therapy

IEMT uses structured eye movements to influence the storage of memories and emotions in the brain, which can reduce the emotional impact of traumatic memories.

During therapy, you are encouraged to get in touch with specific emotions and memories, whilst the therapist guides you in exploring these feelings. Associated emotions and memories linked to limiting beliefs are incorporated into the process in order to get to the heart and root of the emotion.

Emotional Wellbeing Blog

Your emotional health affects virtually every aspect of your life, from how you cope with stress to the way you form relationships. When you are emotionally healthy, you can make better choices, you are more effective at work, and you have more energy for the people you love.

In addition, emotional health also affects your physical wellbeing. Chronic stress and unresolved emotions can lead to physical symptoms such as headaches, sleep disorders and even heart problems.

Expert by Experience in Narcissism

Narcissistic behaviour can be subtle and insidious, meaning that, as a victim, you will often gradually adapt to the dynamic without fully realising it. It often starts with small remarks, manipulation or gaslighting, which undermine your self-confidence and make you doubt your own reality. This leads to feelings of confusion, anxiety and/or isolation.

NARCISSISTIC BEHAVIOUR

Subtle and manipulative in nature, which can lead to feelings of confusion, anxiety and/or social isolation.

Questioning your own perceptions and reality

Gaslighting and manipulation

Gaslighting and manipulation create an environment in which you begin to question your own reality. This not only causes confusion, but can also lead to a distorted or diminished self-image. When the narcissist’s wishes are constantly prioritised, self-esteem is undermined and personal needs and identity become blurred.

Victims often find it difficult to acknowledge the abuse, because narcissists put on a charming or caring façade. This makes it hard to spot the signs of manipulation and abuse, particularly when the narcissist’s behaviour seems attractive at first. As a result, victims may feel guilty or doubt their own experiences, because they want to continue to see the good in the narcissist.

Breaking free from a narcissistic relationship is often a complex and challenging journey, particularly as the narcissist usually sets out to isolate you from those around you. This isolation not only makes you feel afraid or ashamed, but also convinces you that you cannot trust anyone and that no one will understand you.

Undermining social relationships

Narcissistic abuse

The narcissist will also actively try to undermine your relationships with friends and family, making you feel even further removed from a support network.

Recognising and acknowledging the signs of narcissistic abuse is crucial. It enables you to understand your experiences and take the right steps. The recovery process can be challenging and long-term, but awareness provides the foundation for change. Once you are aware of the dynamics, you can begin to build your self-confidence and restore your mental health. This is an important step towards liberation and regaining your own identity, which you lost during the abuse.

Friends and family, as well as fellow survivors, are often the first sources of support. Their willingness to listen and their empathy can be of enormous help in processing emotions and experiences. Professionals, on the other hand, will offer targeted guidance and techniques to help you come to terms with the trauma of narcissistic abuse. Together, these support networks form an important foundation for recovery and growth, enabling you to ultimately emerge from the experience stronger.

Childhood trauma

Childhood trauma is a traumatic event that occurred during childhood or even before birth; it has a profound impact on a child’s emotional and psychological development and will carry over into adulthood.

Factors contributing to trauma

Early detection is essential to providing children with the right emotional and mental support

factors contributing to trauma

Unpredictable environment

Childhood trauma can result from, for example, abuse, neglect and exposure to violence. However, health problems affecting the child or their carer, or the loss of a parent or carer through death, divorce or absence, can also have a profound impact.

An unsafe or unpredictable environment, such as frequent moves or living in a foster family, can also contribute to trauma.

Early detection

Emotional and mental support

Early identification is essential to providing children with the right emotional and mental support. By intervening at an early stage, we can help them cope better with their feelings and stressors, thereby significantly reducing the risk of future problems such as anxiety, depression or relationship difficulties. By addressing these issues in a safe and supportive way, children are given a solid foundation on which to develop healthily and become more resilient.

Trauma counselling/PTSD

Trauma is the emotional and psychological response to a traumatic event. It can lead to a wide range of reactions, including fear, sadness, anger and confusion.

IEMT combined with Horse-Assisted Coaching

To help you move beyond reliving the experience and put those memories further into the past

to alleviate trauma

IEMT & Horse-Assisted Coaching

Trauma can leave a deep mark on your emotions, thoughts and body. This can be caused by traumatic events, but also by childhood experiences, loss, rejection or prolonged feelings of insecurity.

Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT)helps to release trapped emotions and old patterns. Through focused attention and eye movements, the emotional charge of memories can be transformed, creating space for peace and new perspectives.

Horse-assisted coaching allows you to experience the process in the here and now. A horse responds to your posture, tension, emotions and energy, and reflects what is happening at that moment. Without judgement, the horse shows you, for example, where you are holding onto tension, where you are struggling to recognise your boundaries, or where you are trying to exert too much control.

Through your interaction with the horse, you can experience what it is like to be fully present, set boundaries, build trust and connect from a place of calm and authenticity. What you may already understand intellectually can be made tangible and visible through the horse.

The combination of IEMT and equine coaching is essentially about reconnecting with yourself.Old patterns can be loosened, creating space for trust, peace, awareness and new choices.

From survival to feeling, connecting and moving again.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder caused by a traumatic event. If something happens in your life that causes intense fear or leaves you with an extreme sense of hopelessness, and you cannot forget the horror of that moment, then you have the hallmarks of PTSD. It is appropriate to view PTSD as a psychological wound, a wound that brings about multiple neurological, emotional and psychological changes.

An intrusive memory associated with PTSD involves flashbacks of the traumatic event, in which you relive the experience, sometimes for minutes or even days at a time. This makes it difficult to break free from that memory.

Even if you can control these memories whilst you are awake, they may still resurface as nightmares whilst you are asleep. This is because the subconscious mind has no barriers like the conscious mind, which is why you are plagued by these nightmares.

This will lead to constant flashbacks of the trauma and a feeling of being overwhelmed.

Avoiding and numbing one’s feelings often result in the breakdown of social connections, even with loved ones. You accept that your close relationships are falling apart because you are afraid of getting close to others. You talk less, particularly about topics related to the traumatic event. Memory loss and concentration problems are common.

With PTSD, you feel increasingly anxious and extremely emotional. You can become angry and aggressive very quickly, and you are often plagued by feelings of guilt and shame.

Personal growth and strength

Personal growth and development can be hindered by memories stored in the body. These are the physical and emotional memories that arise from negative experiences, such as injuries, accidents or emotional trauma resulting from traumatic events. These traces can manifest themselves in the form of often unconscious emotional reactions or behaviour, but also as tension and physical pain.

Emotional level

It will hinder your personal growth

stress and physical pain

Lead to emotional challenges

On an emotional level, these bodily memories can lead to anxiety, stress or other emotional challenges. This occurs on a subconscious level and will hinder your personal growth. Your system is burdened by unresolved, limiting memories and beliefs.

Trauma-related tension can also lead to muscle tension, such as neck and back problems and chronic pain. These blockages restrict your freedom of movement in everyday life.

Physical activity is essential for personal growth, as it not only promotes physical health but also improves mental and emotional well-being.

Re-evaluate the blockage and let it go

Body-oriented therapy

If you have a physical disability, this can undermine your overall well-being and your potential for growth in other areas.

Body-oriented therapy can help you bring these memories to the surface and re-evaluate and let go of the unconscious emotional process that leads to a blockage.

Based on the belief that all unprocessed memories are stored in your body, working through distressing beliefs is effective. This brings greater resilience and insight, helping you to rediscover yourself. Acknowledging and processing stored trauma will deepen your self-knowledge and restore your connection with your body.

Depression

Stressful life events, such as bereavement, trauma or prolonged stress, can also contribute to the onset of depression. Because past experiences continue to influence how the future is perceived, many people feel that their present-day lives are under pressure.

the impact of depression

Behaviour and physical health

Depression is a common but serious mood disorder that affects how a person feels, thinks and behaves. People often experience feelings of sadness, hopelessness and helplessness, and lose interest in everyday activities.

It not only affects one’s state of mind, but it can also influence thoughts, behaviour and physical health.
People who are depressed often find it difficult to concentrate or to make decisions.

Someone is plagued by negative thoughts about themselves and the future, to such an extent that suicidal thoughts may arise or suicidal behaviour may occur.

Physically, there may be a change in appetite, accompanied by weight gain or loss, sleep problems and, ultimately, a lack of energy and fatigue. Headaches or muscle pain with no obvious cause are certainly among the symptoms as well.

When these emotions remain stored in the body, depression can manifest itself in various ways within the body:

letting go of limiting memories

Emotional freedom and physical wellbeing

  • Increased muscle tension: Stress and tension can lead to physical discomfort.
  • Hormonal changes: Depression can affect hormone levels, which can lead to tiredness and changes in appetite.
  • Immune system: People with depression often have a weakened immune system, making them more susceptible to illness.
  • Changes in brain structure: Research shows that depression can affect brain structure, which can lead to changes in cognitive functions and emotions.

Processing blockages in the body by releasing limiting memories can be an important part of emotional and physical healing. With IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy), we trace back from an initial memory to the root of the feeling. Once we reach the core, you can break the pattern and process the physical blockage.

Letting go of limiting memories is a process that can take time and patience, but it will lead to both greater emotional freedom and physical wellbeing.

Trauma

Trauma is the emotional and psychological response to a deeply distressing event. It can lead to a wide range of reactions, including fear, sadness, anger and confusion.
Trauma therapy focuses on helping people who have been affected by various forms of trauma, such as emotional and physical abuse, sexual abuse, the loss of loved ones, accidents, experiences of war or violence, natural disasters, as well as childhood trauma.

PTSD includes flashbacks

Intergal Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) offers an effective way of alleviating persistent distressing emotions and feelings arising from trauma. The focus on eye movements and the re-evaluation of memories enables clients to process their experiences in a new way.
